Association of Hypoglycemic Treatment Regimens on Cardiovascular Outcomes in Overweight and Obese SubjectsWith Type 2 Diabetes A Substudy of the SCOUT Trial

چکیده
RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODSdThis analysis included 8,192 overweight patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus from the Sibutramine Cardiovascular Outcomes Trial (SCOUT) randomized to lifestyle intervention with or without sibutramine for up to 6 years. Patients were grouped according to hypoglycemic treatment at baseline. The primary end point was the time from randomization to the first occurrence of a primary outcome event (POE), nonfatal myocardial infarction, nonfatal stroke, resuscitation after cardiac arrest, or cardiovascular death. Multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to assess the impact of antiglycemic treatment on POE and all-cause mortality.

Association of Hypoglycemic Treatment Regimens With Cardiovascular Outcomes in Overweight and Obese Subjects With Type 2 Diabetes
OBJECTIVE To assess the association of hypoglycemic treatment regimens with cardiovascular adverse events and mortality in a large population of type 2 diabetic patients at increased cardiovascular risk. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS This analysis included 8,192 overweight patients with type 2 diabetes from the Sibutramine Cardiovascular Outcomes (SCOUT) trial randomized to lifestyle interventi...
متن کاملThe SCOUT study: risk-benefit profile of sibutramine in overweight high-risk cardiovascular patients
Moderate weight loss improves metabolic and cardiovascular risk factors and prevents the progression to Type 2 diabetes. Furthermore, a healthy lifestyle is associated with lower cardiovascular mortality, whereas sustained weight loss and increased fitness are both associated with reduced cardiovascular mortality. Currently available antiobesity drugs have been shown to deliver moderate weight ...
متن کاملCardiovascular responses to weight management and sibutramine in high-risk subjects: an analysis from the SCOUT trial.
AIMS The Sibutramine Cardiovascular OUTcomes (SCOUT) trial is a randomized, double-blind comparison of sibutramine vs. placebo, in addition to standard care for weight management, in overweight/obese subjects with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. The study had an initial single-blind, 6-week lead-in period with sibutramine plus weight management. We report the cardiovascular respons...
متن کاملLong-term efficacy of metformin therapy in nonobese individuals with type 2 diabetes.
OBJECTIVE The U.K. Prospective Diabetes Study (UKPDS) has demonstrated that metformin is as effective as sulfonylureas in obese subjects and is associated with less weight gain, fewer hypoglycemic episodes, and better cardiovascular outcomes. It is hence the pharmacological therapy of choice in this subgroup. However, a gap in our present knowledge is the long-term response to metformin in nono...
